Dr Bob Scott Disease Prevention Award
Mr Bill Gates receives first Dr. Bob Scott Award in recognition of Bill and Melinda Gates incredible support for Rotary's efforts to end Polio.
District 7070 established The Dr. Bob Scott Disease Prevention Award in the fall of 2014, to honor Dr. Bob for all his work on Rotary's behalf to End Polio. The Award will recognize individuals and organizations who or which have made significant contributions to disease and prevention and treatment to polio eradication and to the health of all peoples worldwide.
The inaugural award was presented to Mr Bill Gates, currently co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for his personal and their Foundation's support to Rotary and to the Global effort to End Polio. To date, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has provided $550 Million (USD) to Rotary's Polio+ program. This included supporting the Rotary Foundation (Canada)'s 2013 "Pennies for Polio" campaign. The award was presented to Mr Gates in Ottawa on Feb 25, 2015. Mr. Gates was in Ottawa to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who is leading an international effort to focus on Maternal and Child Health.
Dr Bob Scott has been involved in Rotary's polio+ program from the very beginning, more than a quarter century ago. Dr, Bob has served Rotary in many capacities including: as a board member of the Rotary Foundation (Canada), a Rotary Foundation Trustee and Chair, a Rotary International Director and International Vice-President and as chair of Rotary International's PolioPlus Committee
